I just saw this video of this guy standing in front of a Corvette at a used car lot and pitching it while singing opera
this used corvette
it was a dream to drive
it can be yours
for the small price
come here now
ask for Andrew
It was really good, the guy can actually sing. And it's funny because of the contrast and all. And someone in the comments was like 'Shame that this guy has to sell used cars instead of singing.'
Which is true and I agree BUT, at the same time, it is also absolutely true that if that guy was just straight up singing opera in a opera house, opera-style that same person wouldn't care. Not nearly as many people would care.
It's why T-Pain sang with auto tune even though he can actually sing well. No one cares about another guy who can sing well.
It's why I put paintings on craigslist free stuff.
The juxtaposition is more important than the parts themselves.

Be the right fish in the wrong pond.

speaking of right fish in wrong pond, I just realized that I dont get alerts when you comment on posts I comment on and so my album report from ol Kenny happened a while ago and you asked for an album and I've not yet sent one!!
UNTIL TODAY!!!!
The Band: Caligula's Horse
The Album: In Contact
The Boys: Australian
The Genre: Prog Metal!
They're my favorite band, this is my favorite album, I'm not pulling any punches! It's technically a concept album with four different perspective characters - A painter, a musician, a poet, and a sculptor. They tell their stories and struggles over an unequal distribution of songs (I think the painter has the first three, and the sculptor only has the final song) and I dont remember the exact distribution, but thats not important unless you wanna watch/read lyrics while you listen. (Which I do recommend but its not a requirement)
I dig music that evokes emotions and these songs / stories definitely do. The final song on the album, Graves is a single character and story in one super long piece and I absolutely adore it, I could listen to it forever. Legit, online prog spaces often explicitly shout out Graves as the best in the genre for a while now.
Also, Atlas looks like the last song but it's just the band doing a different take on a song from a few albums prior, I don't consider it to be a part of the 'official tracklist.' Feel free to skip or listen as you desire.
Idk if this album will resonate with you like it does me but I freakin love it and am just excited for you to listen. No rush tho, feel free to take your time!
I was wrong, the first FOUR songs are the painter, then two for the composer, three for the poet, and one for the sculptor.
I could go into more detail to help contextualize lyrics if you ever go that route but I'm trying to ride the line between helpful background and not overwhelming or spoiling any experience.
Largely the lyrics are interpretive more than prescriptive. The stories and themes are there but it's not just all blatantly stated, you gotta do some putting together if you want to know the actual details.
