I like to do these kinds of characters at work. Cartoonishly dark and miserable people who somehow feel the need to obnoxiously broadcast their strange woes.

This is why Jodi is secretly the much darker character here. She is still friends with Gerdi BECAUSE he will never acknowledge this fact. Jodi prides herself on being friendly to everyone and winning over their affection. Gerdi, on the other hand, is insufferably self-serving and obnoxious and will never reveal the kind of tender, thank-you-for-those-kind-words-you-wonderful-person-you feelings that Jodi craves. Jodi denies all of this but fears it must be true during certain 2AM sleep-paralysis ceiling stare marathons. So the two play out this never-ending orbit with one another, fueled by the desires that neither can satisfy. Which is movement. Which is life.
