Outside in Fall

The sun is bright.
The shade is cool.
The wind has changed and imbued with smells.
And if you fall
into a pile of dead leaves and beneath
the crunch of color is no ground
to catch you
and
this
tunnel
trap
of Autumn
swallows you whole
and possesses and passes you through its twisting intestines you will be struck
by the inevitable forces upsetting the very planet itself to bring you the miracle period
of shifting shadows and warm sweaters over which we can do nothing
but breathe deep and name it
Fall.
